UMC PRO Outlines Vision For Gambia’s Future

Kemo Bojang, Public Relations Officer of the Unite Movement for Change (UMC), has laid out the movement’s priorities in a recent conversation with JollofNews, placing diversity, transparency, and institutional reform at the center of its agenda.

Bojang described the UMC as a broad coalition of Gambians from different ethnic and social backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to national progress. He said the movement sees the country’s diversity not as a challenge but as one of its greatest assets. According to him, the UMC aims to reflect the full makeup of the nation and channel that strength toward building a fairer and more accountable system.

A key part of that vision, he explained, is pushing for the Anti-Corruption Bill to become law. For the UMC, the bill is an essential step toward restoring public trust and creating a culture of integrity across government. Bojang stressed that institutions matter, but genuine accountability also depends on personal responsibility.

He argued that strong checks and balances are overdue and that lasting reform requires leaders who understand that public office is temporary. Clear term limits, he said, create a system where leaders know their decisions will follow them after they leave office, encouraging a mindset focused on service rather than power.

On foreign and domestic partnerships, Bojang said the UMC is committed to safeguarding national interests above all else. He dismissed recent controversies surrounding the movement as distractions meant to shift public attention away from the real issues.

“Our focus is on nation-building, not noise,” he said, urging Gambians to prioritise conversations about livelihoods, opportunity, and economic challenges instead of what he described as artificial debates.

Bojang closed by reaffirming the UMC’s pledge to help build a country where every citizen has a fair chance, and where unity in diversity is seen as a guiding principle rather than a slogan.
