Multi-Million Dalasi Project Launched To Face-lift Armitage School

A whooping D10 million project has been launched to refurbish dormitories and classrooms of Armitage Senior Secondary School in Janjangbureh, some 234km from Gambia’s capital, Banjul.

Funded by global health researcher; Medical Research Council (MRC) and Holland Foundation, the project will be implemented by Gambia’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

The project was launched during the graduation ceremony of the school’s 86th batch since its 91 years of establishment.

“I commend Gambia’s former vice president Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang, who was a one-time student of Armitage for encouraging me to invest in the upkeep of the school,” MRC Holland head Hendrietta Sonko said during the project launching on Saturday.

She said they have already started fencing the school’s perimeters which, she said is one of the many works they are doing to improve the dilapidated condition of the school.

Madam Sonko said as part of the project, they will also construct some rooms and install electricity in the school, including a solar back-up system for a 24-hour security light facilities.

Basic and Secondary Education minister branded MRC Holland as valuable partners, saying they are implementing other projects across the country to complement the ministry’s efforts.
